y’all: idk… gamefreak really didn’t seem like they tried hard when it comes to X/Y sorry ://
like half of those things didn’t carry over to future games, either because they made the 3DS shit itself because game freak can’t optimize their games or for no real reason at all
also this is kind of disingenuous of the actual criticisms for the game
you can put actual effort into a project, but without a proper vision or forethought you can end up with a mess. Now X/Y isn’t bad by any means, pretty much any Pokemon game is pretty high quality compared to most RPGs of the same kind in the industry, just:
the region was oddly paced and fairly linear, which most Pokemon regions are to an extent, but it lacks a feeling of adventure or exploration or player autonomy as you go through Kalos. Unova and its sequel version (which was slightly better in this regard towards the latter half of the game) had similar issues, but it more than made up for it in other ways
even without exp share on it lacks any sort of challenge, even on a casual level (Sun and Moon are pretty easy too, but there’s still a difficulty curve and you have to strategize for fights more often). X/Y you just sort of experience and there’s nothing to really make you think outside the box to overcome anything like in earlier Pokemon games, but maybe it’s harder for somebody younger idk
the whole style of the region is very off and feels like it lacks any sort of cohesion. unlike Unova, Johto, Alola, Hoenn, and Kanto (Sinnoh sort of has the same issues imo, but Sinnoh is a whole different other mixed bag of great things and god awful things). There’s nothing that really makes you feel like this is France or even that the region is one contiguous place. There’s Luminose City and like some sort of castle at the beginning of the game. That’s really it, everything else just feels like a bunch of ideas thrown together, and not in a way that felt cool like with Unova or Alola, which had the same amount of variety, but managed to pull of a believable world.
the complete lack of any post-game content outside of that one town and Zygarde with a journey that itself feels very vapid. It’s pretty disappointing. I still played the game for 1,000 hours playing with friends and farming shinies, so it did its job in the end, and there’s a lot one could really say to explain why it’s one of the most lukewarm entries in the series, but at least it’s not the original Diamond and Pearl (not Platinum which was probably the most essential rerelease ever). Those were the real mess tbh
